American College of Health Care Administrators New Jersey Chapter

The New Jersey Chapter of the ACHCA conducted the Annual Meeting on April 4, 2012 at the Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury, New Jersey.

Chapter President, Michael Hotz, welcomed Board Members, Past Presidents, Attendees and Vendors.

Approval of Minutes

Secretary, Janet Merly-Liranzo presented the minutes of the April 2011 Annual Meeting. A motion to approve these minutes was made by Jim Caron and seconded by Robert Reyes. Minutes were accepted as presented. The minutes will be posted on the NJACHCA Website.

Finance Report

Treasurer, Robert Reyes presented the financial report. The beginning balance as of January 2012 was $23,331.50. The income stated as of February 2012 was $17,335. The expenses totaled $14,285.43 with a closing balance of $28,381.07. A motion to approve the Finance Report was made by Helaine Ledany and seconded by Roberto Muniz. This report was accepted as presented.


The Chapter awards were presented to the following members: Jim Zauner, New Administrator award, presented by Diane Delaney; The Distinguished Administrator award was given to Toni Lynn Davis presented by Judith Whittler; The Distinguished Member Service award was given to Nat Freedman by Anne Marie Gauntlett; The Scholarship Award was given to Yaakov Chapler, AI T by Jim Berg; The Preseident’s Award was announced for Paul Langevin, who was unable to be present. Mr. Hotz thanked all of the recipients and expressed his gratitude for their continued commitment and endless dedication.

Nominating Committee

Nominations for the positions on the Executive Board of Directors of the NJ Chapter of ACHCA were made. A motion to accept the slate of potential Board Members was made by Sr. Lucille Durso and seconded by Sr. Norah Clarke. The following Officers were elected for 2012-2013 and sworn into office by the President and CEO of ACHCA, Marianna Grachek.

By-Laws Committee

A report of the By-Laws Committee was presented and there were no changes to the By- Laws at this time.

President’s Report

Mr. Hotz welcomed and thanked everyone for attending the Annual Meeting and Seminar, including the speakers from the DOHSS, NJ Ombudsman Office for the Institutionalized Elderly and the Health Care Association of New Jersey.

Mr. Hotz informed the members that the NJ Chapter membership has increased 11%, with 179 active members and is currently the third largest Chapter nationwide. The NJ Chapter will be receiving a Chapter Award at the ACHCA Convocation in Nashville, TN on May 4-8, 2012 and we are a Bronze Sponsor of the Convocation. The Convocation Gala and Awards Banquet will be held on the General Jackson Steamboat. ACHCA will also be celebrating their 50th anniversary. The NJ Chapter has two nominations to the ACHCA Board of Directors, Norda Bellantoni, as Board Member and Michael Hotz, as Vice-Chair.

Mr. Hotz encouraged members to participate and get involved in the many committees in the Chapter. We have Student Members in the Chapter and he encouraged the active members to strongly encourage their AIT’s and interns to join ACHCA.

The NJ Chapter is in the process of filing the necessary documentation to be a provider of NHA CEU’s for PA Licensed NHAs, and in turn, will be applicable for NY Licensed NHAs.

The following Business Affiliates were recognized for their support and participation in this Annual Meeting:

Sea Breeze, Mobilex, Medline, Felician College, Jeff Corliss, Today’s Atlantic Office Sytems, Vitas Hospice, Reunion Pharmacy, Partners Pharmacy and Pinnacle.

Additionally, the winner of the Convocation Raffle was Debra Hollander. The original winner of this raffle was disqualified.

Mr. Hotz introduced the President and CEO of ACHCA, Marianna Grachek. Ms. Grachek recognized the Chapter for the overall effort and hard work in making the NJ Chapter a success. Some of the attributes are in the areas of membership increases and involvement, the newsletter and financial sponsorships. She also congratulated the Chapter in winning the Chapter Award that will be awarded at the ACHCA Convocation. Ms. Grachek also mentioned that there were many activities planned for this year’s Convocation; such as, the annual memorial service, golf outing, silent auction and over 20+ CEU’s. Ms. Grachek also encouraged the members to become Fellow and Certified through ACHCA, as these are honorable and recognizable in many states.
